Qatar assures Bangladesh of its support for energy security

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Doha on Wednesday (August 19, 2026).

During the meeting, Dr. Khalilur Rahman conveyed the greetings of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the leadership of Qatar. At the same time, he expressed Bangladesh’s solidarity with Qatar and praised the country’s constructive and responsible role in establishing regional peace, security and stability.

At the time, the Qatari Prime Minister congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on being elected as the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He reiterated Qatar’s full support and commitment to cooperation in the successful discharge of his duties.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdur Rahman referred to Bangladesh as a ‘brotherly country’ in discussions on bilateral cooperation. He also assured that Qatar will provide all possible assistance to ensure Bangladesh’s energy security in the current challenging situation.

In the meeting, Dr. Khalilur Rahman invited the Prime Minister of Qatar to visit Bangladesh at his convenient time.

Then, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh held a separate meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. Various issues of mutual interest were discussed there.

The meetings were attended by Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Humayun Kabir, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and senior officials of both countries.
