Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi sees bright future for Bangladesh-India relations

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi has stressed on making Bangladesh-India relations better and more people-friendly. He said that the common people of both countries want good relations and many existing problems can be solved if the top leadership of the two countries sit together.

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat at around 11 am on Monday (August 10). He made these remarks while talking to reporters after the meeting.

Regarding the meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Indian High Commissioner said, “I am very happy to have met him. At first glance, I did not feel that I was meeting him for the first time. He is a very humble and common man-oriented leader.”

Dinesh Trivedi said that the relations between the people of Bangladesh and India are very good. India hopes to maintain and strengthen this relationship at the government level as well.

He said, “The relations between the people of India and Bangladesh are very good. We want to maintain this relationship at the government level as well. Our Prime Minister has always said that it is very important for the two countries to have good relations.”

The Indian High Commissioner said that the Indian Prime Minister is also a people-friendly leader. He expressed hope that many problems will be resolved if the top leaders of the two countries sit together.

Regarding various issues in Bangladesh-India relations, Dinesh Trivedi said, there will always be differences of opinion and various issues in democratic countries. However, there is no such thing that the two countries cannot resolve through talks.

He said, “There will always be issues in democracy. If there are no issues, it is not democracy. There will be issues in Bangladesh, there will be issues in India too. But the issue of the common people is only one — good relations.”

Referring to the relations between the two countries as a ‘win-win situation’, he said, “There is no issue that we cannot resolve by sitting down. I can say with great confidence that we can resolve all the problems through talks.”

Highlighting the historical and geographical relations between Bangladesh and India, Dinesh Trivedi said, “The historical relations we have cannot be changed. Our neighbors cannot be changed, nor can history be changed. I always say—we not only share borders, we also share dreams.”

He also said that he is very optimistic that Bangladesh-India relations will improve in the coming days. He also commented that issues related to the interests of the two countries should be resolved through discussions between the two sides.

The Indian High Commissioner said that since his visit to Bangladesh, he has received immense respect, sincerity and love. He is very happy about it.

He said, “I really enjoyed meeting the Prime Minister. This is also the first time I have met the Honorable Home Minister. I am grateful for the valuable time that the two leaders have given me.”

Wishing the people of the two countries a bright future, Dinesh Trivedi said that the common people of Bangladesh and India have similar expectations—that the relations between the two countries should be good. And if that relationship is good, both countries will benefit.

Finally, he wished a bright future for the people of Bangladesh and India.
