Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has called for working together for the welfare of the people of the country and the area, rising above personal or political interests. He said that everyone, regardless of party, creed, religion or caste, should be involved to advance the “Barura Upazila Janakalyan Samity” as a non-political and public welfare platform.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration, inauguration and annual general meeting of the newly elected executive council of the ‘Barura Upazila Janakalyan Samity, Dhaka’ at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) building in Kakrail, the capital, on Saturday (August 8, 2026).
The minister said that initiatives have been taken to bring about 300 roads, big and small, in Barura Upazila under various projects. There will be no unpaved roads in Barura within the next two to three years. In addition, initiatives have been taken to implement several important road projects for the overall development of the east-west and north-south communication system of the area.
Regarding the development of education and medical services, the minister said that initiatives have been taken to establish a technical college in Barura and the target has been set to complete its tender process by the end of this year. At the same time, various steps are being taken to improve the quality of healthcare in the area, including the establishment of a 101-bed hospital.
Stating that he got the responsibility through the votes and prayers of the people, the minister said that he is committed to regularly reporting to the people about the progress of development activities. At this time, he sought the cooperation and prayers of people from all walks of life for the overall development of Barura.
The program was presided over by the President of Barura Upazila Janakalyan Samity, Md. Shah Alam, and General Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain were present. Professor Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Abdul Haque, Monindra Kishore Majumder and Nurul Islam Milon Samity spoke on the program, highlighting the activities, progress and plans.
Engineer Atiqur Rahman and Md. Abdus Samad, along with the members of the executive council of Barura Upazila Janakalyan Samity and the general members were present.
Earlier, in the opening phase of the program, the newly elected members of the executive council were formally sworn in and inaugurated. Later, in the annual general meeting of the association, various activities of the organization, achievements, future work plans and various initiatives taken for the welfare of the people of the area were discussed in detail.
