Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Eng. Waleed El-Khereiji paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. In the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (August 4, 2026), both sides agreed to take the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to new heights, expand investment and further strengthen strategic cooperation.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia are based on mutual trust and long-standing friendship. The current government wants to build a strategic, multi-dimensional and long-term partnership with Saudi Arabia.
He called for increased Saudi investment in Bangladesh, especially in the solar power sector, and said that Bangladesh is implementing a comprehensive program to increase the use of clean energy. Investment by Saudi companies in this sector will be beneficial for both countries.
In response, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Engineer Walid El-Khereiji said that a favorable environment for investment has been created in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Saudi Arabia is interested in expanding cooperation and investment in various promising sectors.
He praised the important contribution of Bangladeshi workers to the development of Saudi Arabia and congratulated the Prime Minister on the election of Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman as the President of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister further said that Saudi Arabia is interested in investing in various promising sectors including processed food, seafood, tropical food, agro-based industries, information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and renewable energy in Bangladesh.
At the end of the meeting, Engineer Walid El-Khereiji formally invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia. The Prime Minister thanked him for the invitation and expressed his hope to visit Saudi Arabia at a convenient time.
Those concerned expressed hope that this meeting will play an important role in further expanding economic, commercial and strategic cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.
