Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the China Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) under construction in Anwara, Chittagong will ultimately attract over $1 billion in investment. He said that this project will have a positive impact not only on Anwara but also on the economy of the entire Chittagong and will open new horizons for industrialization.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the development of the Bangladesh-China Economic Zone in Belchura area of Anwara, Chittagong on Monday (July 27, 2026) afternoon.
The Finance Minister said that this investment in CEIZ is an important milestone towards realizing the goal of turning Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.

He said, “We are working with the goal of creating 10 million jobs. This economic zone will create employment opportunities for more than 100,000 people. Although there is currently a plan to invest 500 million US dollars, ultimately more than 1 billion US dollars will be invested in this zone, including infrastructure.”
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury further said that the benefits of this economic zone will not be limited to Anwara; rather, it will have a positive impact on the economy of the entire Chittagong. A strong supply chain, various service sectors and housing facilities for workers will be developed here.

He said that through the implementation of the project, new business opportunities will be created not only for industries but also for housing, transportation, logistics, service sectors and small and medium entrepreneurs. As a result, a new momentum will be created in the overall economic activities of South Chittagong.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin were present as special guests at the event.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, President of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun, Chairman of CEIZ Wang Benchian, Member of Parliament Sarwar Jamal Nizam, and President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Amirul Haque also spoke at the event.
