Business Desk:
NRB Bank PLC and Nagad, the mobile financial service of the Postal Department, have signed an innovative agreement to make financial transaction services for customers easier, more affordable and more convenient.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at the corporate head office of NRB Bank in Gulshan, the capital, on Monday (July 20, 2026). Through this agreement, NRB Bank will be able to serve customers in remote areas of the country, where they do not have any branches, using Nagad’s platform. It was hoped that this will lead to unprecedented improvement in business and commerce.
The agreement was signed by Bangladesh Bank-appointed Nagad Administrator Md. Motasim Billah and NRB Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tarek Riaz Khan.
Under the agreement, Nagad will instantly deliver remittances received from abroad through NRB Bank to the wallets of customers in remote areas. As a result, beneficiaries will be able to receive and use remittances from anywhere in the country 24 hours a day. In addition, it was announced that Nagad and NRB Bank will jointly expand the scope of many other services, including nano loans, corporate collections.
At the event, NRB Bank Managing Director and CEO Tarek Riaz Khan said, “We want to change the traditional transaction system. For that, partnership with an organization like Nagad is important for us. We believe that through this agreement, we will be able to further expand the scope of our services. It is not possible to serve customers in remote areas through our 109 branches and sub-branches nationwide. In this case, if NRB Bank customers receive services from Nagad’s more than three lakh agent points, it will greatly expand our scope of services.”
At the event, Nagad Administrator Md. Motasim Billah said, “Fintech will change the traditional method of transactions in the coming days. To meet the demands of time, mutual cooperation between institutions will become very important. Nagad is moving forward by meeting this demand of time, which is making a positive contribution to the country’s economy.”
The agreement signing ceremony was attended by Nagad’s Chief Commercial Officer Mohammad Shahin Sarwar Bhuiyan, Head of Remittance Department Md. Ahsanul Haque Bashar and senior officials of the company. In addition, NRB Bank’s Deputy Managing Directors Anwar Uddin and M. Rashidul Huda, Head of Branch Banking Department and Senior Executive Vice President Mohammad Taufiqul Alam Chowdhury, Head of Transaction Banking Department Md. Arifuzzaman, Acting Head of Remittance Department Syed Mahfuz Ali and senior officials of the bank were present.
Nagad has undertaken various activities to increase the flow of remittances in the country through legal channels and encourage digital transactions. Among these, the company has been running various awareness and reward-based campaigns for expatriates and their families since the beginning. Recently, through a campaign titled ‘Har Na Mana Har’, the company also provided an opportunity to win gold rates for expatriate family members receiving remittances through Nagad.
Nagad has also expanded the possibilities of cashless transactions by launching the ‘Bangla QR’ payment service and the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) facility. Now, payments can be made easily from the Nagad app at 1 million Bangla QR merchants in the country.
