Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP, handed over the condolence message of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the state condolence reception ceremony organized at Lusail Amiri Palace on Tuesday (14 July 2026) afternoon on the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar and the father of the current Emir.
At the same time, he expressed sincere condolences on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh to the Emir of Qatar and the bereaved members of the royal family and prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul of the late Emir.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram recalled with deep respect the visionary leadership of the late Emir, known as the architect of modern Qatar, and his unique contribution to strengthening the foundation of Bangladesh-Qatar brotherly relations. Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy Humayun Kabir and the Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar were present at the time. After handing over the condolence message, the Speaker met with Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar.
Earlier, the Speaker arrived in Doha on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, on a short official visit to express deep grief and condolences on behalf of Bangladesh on the death of the former Emir of Qatar and the father of the current Emir. Upon his arrival at Hamad International Airport at 1:25 pm local time on Tuesday, the Speaker was welcomed by Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan and a representative of the Amir-e-Diwan of Qatar.
It is noteworthy that the Bangladesh government has decided to observe state mourning on July 15, 2026, following the death of His Highness the Amir of Qatar, a true friend of Bangladesh and Bangladeshis abroad. As part of the state mourning, today, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions and educational institutions in Bangladesh, including all government and private buildings, and Bangladesh missions abroad.
