The Embassy of Indonesia in Bangladesh (KBRI Dhaka) has played an active role in Dhaka to expand bilateral cooperation in Bangladesh’s health sector and promote Indonesia as a regional healthcare destination. Four leading hospitals from Indonesia participated in the “International Health Tourism and Services Expo” held from 7-9 May 2026.

Representatives from Dr. Chipto Mangunkusumo National Referral Hospital (RSCM), Harapan Kita National Cardiovascular Center, Dharmais National Cancer Hospital and Siloam Hospitals Group participated in the event.

As part of economic diplomacy in the health sector, KBRI Dhaka organized meetings, visits and networking activities with various healthcare institutions in Bangladesh. At the same time, Indonesia’s health tourism sector was highlighted through a “Business Gathering and Networking Session”.

At the Business Gathering event organized on May 7, Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listyowati
said, “This visit is not only to highlight the quality of Indonesian healthcare, but also an important opportunity to further strengthen bridges and partnerships between the two countries.”

She also said, “This visit will strengthen cooperation between hospitals and healthcare institutions of the two countries in various areas such as capacity building, exchange of skills and experiences, exchange of best practices related to healthcare, delegation visits and training of health workers. In addition, it will create new opportunities for practical cooperation in medical services, health tourism and health human resource development.”

The Indonesian ambassador and hospital representatives paid a courtesy call on the Secretary of the Healthcare Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh. The meeting discussed the possibility of implementing practical health cooperation programs for the welfare of the people of the two countries.

KBRI Dhaka also arranged for the Indonesian delegation to visit various leading healthcare institutions in Bangladesh. These included United Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Bangladesh Specialized Hospital and National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital.

A cooperation agreement was signed between Siloam Hospitals Group and GD Assist Bangladesh on May 8 to expand Indonesia’s medical tourism sector. The parties concerned hope that this will increase interest in Indonesia as a medical destination in Bangladesh, which has a population of over 170 million.

Overall, the visit and activities of the Indonesian delegation in Dhaka were fruitful and successful. Both sides expressed several commitments to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas of the health sector in the future.
