Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen called on Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan at the Secretariat on Thursday (April 16, 2026).
During the meeting, the Information Minister said that China is a long-time tested and reliable friend of Bangladesh. If cooperation in the information and communication technology sector between the two countries expands further, it will play an important role in mutual development and capacity building.
The Information Minister said that the information and communication technology sector is undergoing rapid changes in the global context. International cooperation is very important to survive in this changing reality and build skilled human resources. In this regard, joint initiatives with China will create new opportunities for Bangladesh. He said that China’s technological excellence and experience are important learning points for Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened through increasing media, training and people-to-people communication.
The Chinese ambassador expressed interest in signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Information, which will strengthen the professional relationship between the state media of the two countries. He also proposed organizing two summits in China in July and October, where Bangladeshi journalists and intellectuals will have the opportunity to participate and exchange technical knowledge and skills.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s Information Advisor Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman and Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana were present at the event.
