A prayer service was held at the Society Jame Mosque in Gulshan on Friday (April 3, 2026) to pray for the repose of the soul of Dilara Hafiz, wife of Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP. The mosque’s imam led the prayers and munajat.
Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram expressed his gratitude to everyone present at the prayer service. He mentioned his long 54-year married life with his wife. He said that his wife was a pious and educated person; she used to pray and fast regularly.
The Speaker prayed to Allah Almighty to grant his late wife and her deceased parents Jannatul Firdous and prayed for the prayers of all those present. At the same time, he called on all citizens to work for the progress and welfare of the country and the nation.
It is to be noted that Dilara Hafiz, wife of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, passed away on 28 March 2026 while undergoing treatment at the Singapore General Hospital.
The late Dilara Hafiz was born on 2 January 1949 in Sunamganj district. She earned her Honours and Masters degrees from Dhaka University. In her illustrious career, she started her career as a lecturer at the Government Eden College. Later, she taught at Suhrawardy College and served as the Principal of Eden Women’s College, Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, and Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
Chief Whip of the National Assembly Md. Nurul Islam, Member of Parliament Md. Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, retired freedom fighters, army officers, BNP leaders and activists of Bhola-3 constituency, general public and various media personnel were present at the prayer mahfil.
