Diplomatic Desk:
The Government of Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over the safety and security of Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Middle East amid the recent escalation of tensions, including developments involving Iran.
Due to the temporary closure of airspace and flight operations in parts of the region, travel of Bangladeshi workers heading to the Middle East for employment has been disrupted. In this context, the Government has already requested the relevant countries to facilitate entry for Bangladeshi nationals intending to travel to the region, as well as those currently stranded, once the situation improves. Several countries have reportedly provided positive assurances in this regard.
The concerned authorities in Bangladesh have taken measures to ensure necessary assistance for workers currently present at various airports across the country. The Government is also maintaining regular communication with the relevant authorities in the Middle East to address emerging concerns and ensure the safety of its citizens.
Bangladesh has initiated necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the premises of the Bangladesh Mission in Tehran, its diplomats and officials, as well as Bangladeshi students studying in Iran.
Expressing deep concern over the failure of dialogue processes and the intensification of recent conflicts in the Middle East, Bangladesh reiterated that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country in the region is imperative. The Government firmly believes that conflict never brings lasting solutions; rather, peaceful resolution of disputes can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and commitment to international law.
Bangladesh has called upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid further escalation, and intensify diplomatic efforts without delay. The country reaffirmed its principled and consistent position in favor of peace, stability, and security in the Middle East, and urged the international community to strengthen efforts to restore peace and create an enabling environment for dialogue.
Earlier this evening, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed islam, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, and the Foreign Secretary held an emergency meeting to review the evolving situation in the Middle East. During the meeting, they also spoke by telephone with the Head of the Bangladesh Mission in Tehran and provided necessary directives.
The Government stated that it is closely monitoring developments and will continue to take all necessary diplomatic and administrative measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi nationals in the region.
