Water Resources Minister Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said that dams are very important for increasing and protecting crop production in the haor region. Due to the repair of these sunken dams every year, crop production in this region is increasing many times. For this reason, we are giving the utmost importance to the haor region. The Ministry of Water Resources will pay more attention to ensuring that the dams are repaired every year and remain corruption-free. He said, there is zero tolerance against corruption in the crop protection dam project.
The minister said these things while visiting the crop protection dams in Dharmapasha and Madhyanagar upazilas of Sunamganj on Friday (February 27, 2026) while answering questions from journalists.
The minister said that the government will do everything necessary for the welfare of the people. The Prime Minister is always keeping an eye on this region, we are standing by you with responsibility. The current government has already undertaken a nationwide canal-pond-re-excavation program to provide irrigation for agricultural purposes, remove waterlogging and restore river navigability.
The minister also said that the government will take initiatives to produce crops through irrigation in this region even during the dry season. Dams are essential to protect the crops produced here, especially rice.
