The Advisory Council has adopted a motion of thanks to all the institutions and individuals concerned for the fair, peaceful and festive atmosphere of the national parliamentary elections and referendum. The motion was adopted at a meeting held at the office of the Chief Advisor in Tejgaon, the capital, on Sunday (February 15, 2026).
The meeting was presided over by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
At a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital after the meeting, the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the first agenda of today’s meeting was to adopt a motion of thanks for organizing the successful and historic elections. The Chief Advisor thanked all the institutions and responsible individuals involved in conducting the elections. The members of the Advisory Council also praised the professional role of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the law enforcement agencies in particular.
The press secretary said that the advisors have termed this year’s election as a ‘great success’. According to them, there are doubts whether such an orderly and peaceful election has been held in the history of Bangladesh. The police, BGB, Coast Guard, Ansar and the armed forces have performed their duties with great efficiency and professionalism.
It was informed in the meeting that post-election violence is significantly less than at any time in the past. Although four deaths were reported, one person was actually killed in election-related violence. It has been decided to form an investigation committee into the incident of Hatiar.
Shafiqul Alam also said that for the first time in this election, body-worn cameras, CCTV and the ‘Suraksha’ app have been widely used. The chief advisor directly observed 17 polling stations from the police headquarters for about an hour and a half and spoke to voters. It was hoped that body-worn cameras will be an integral part of election management in the future.
The meeting praised the independent and strong role of the Election Commission. The briefing said that the European Union, Commonwealth and IRI among the international observers highly praised the elections. The significant presence of women and young voters was also highlighted as a positive aspect.
In addition, a vote of thanks was taken for the contribution of the recently resigned former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid and wished him long life.
The briefing also informed that the oath-taking of the newly elected members of parliament will be held in the National Parliament on February 17 at 10 am. The oath-taking of the new Prime Minister and cabinet members will be held at the South Plaza of the Parliament at 4 pm on the same day. Foreign ministers of friendly countries have been invited to the event.
The Chief Advisor said in the meeting, “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to serve this nation.”
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar was present at the briefing.
