Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat, said, we are always there to support media workers. On the basis of mutual cooperation, we will present accurate information about the upcoming referendum and the 13th National Parliament Election.

The Senior Secretary expressed this conviction while inaugurating the Media Center of the Directorate of Information at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka in collaboration with the Bangladesh Election Commission on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) to support foreign media workers in their professional work on the occasion of the Referendum-2026 and the 13th National Parliament Election. It is worth noting that a help desk has also been opened at the airport to help foreign journalists.

At that time, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mahbuba Farzana was present as the president and Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Asad Alam Siam and Chief Information Officer Md. Nizamul Kabir were present as special guests.
Akhtar Ahmed said, updating the voter list accurately and registering new political parties etc. was very challenging this time. We have completed these in stages. All preparations for voting have been completed. We are ready for free and fair elections.
Addressing the journalists, he said, you should present accurate information by preventing propaganda and misinformation. Regarding the time for counting the election results, he said, under no circumstances will the results be prolonged more than necessary.

Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mahbuba Farzana, said in her presidential address, responsible journalism is very important in national life at this time. This election is not just a political event; it is a reflection of the hopes and aspirations of the nation. We are all committed to making the election transparent and fair.
He said, so far, journalists from 19 countries have come to Bangladesh for the election. It is our responsibility to provide them with support and security. The media center will provide necessary information on the election and referendum. Necessary logistical support has been provided for foreign journalists at the media center. He expressed hope that they will follow the guidelines published by the Election Commission.

In his speech as a special guest, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam said that it is very important to present all information about the elections to the international arena through domestic and foreign journalists. About 540 foreign observers and journalists will come to Bangladesh. Among them are representatives of the Election Commission of different countries, international organizations, election observation organizations and international media workers.
He also said that our ministry has always been working cooperatively with the international community so that they can be properly informed about the democratic process in Bangladesh.
The heads of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its departments and agencies, officials of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and journalists from various media were present at the event.
