BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock at the demise of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. In a condolence message, he said, “My mother, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, has left us today in response to the call of Almighty Allah. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.”
Tarique Rahman said, Begum Khaleda Zia was a national leader, an uncompromising leader, the mother of democracy and the mother of Bangladesh to many. With her demise, the country has lost a great guide, who has left an indelible mark on the democratic movement and journey of Bangladesh.
In his condolence message, he further mentioned that in her personal life, Khaleda Zia was a compassionate mother who dedicated her entire life to the welfare of the country and the people. She fought against tyranny, fascism and hegemony throughout her life and led the struggle to establish independence, sovereignty and democracy.
Tarique Rahman said that despite being a symbol of sacrifice and struggle, Begum Khaleda Zia was the true guardian of the family. Even in difficult times, her courage, compassion and love provided strength and inspiration to every member of the family. She was repeatedly arrested, deprived of medical treatment and subjected to extreme oppression; yet she never compromised.
In his condolence message, he said that Begum Khaleda Zia lost her husband and children for the country. As a result, this country and its people were her real family. She left behind an unforgettable history of public service, sacrifice and struggle, which will be forever remembered in the democratic history of Bangladesh.
Finally, Tarique Rahman sought prayers from the countrymen for the forgiveness of his mother’s soul and he and his family expressed deep gratitude for the love and respect of the countrymen and the world for Begum Khaleda Zia.
