Repatriation of 32 Bangladeshi and 47 Indian Fishermen Completed

The mutual repatriation of Bangladeshi and Indian fishermen detained in each other’s waters was successfully completed on Tuesday (09 December 2025) afternoon. The exchange took place in the Bay of Bengal along the international maritime boundary between the two countries.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard received 32 Bangladeshi fishermen from the Indian Coast Guard, while 47 Indian fishermen detained in Bangladesh were handed over to the Indian authorities. As part of the exchange, the Indian Coast Guard returned a Bangladesh-owned fishing boat, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard handed over three India-owned fishing boats.

Meanwhile, under the supervision of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), six Bangladeshi fishermen detained in Meghalaya, India, are expected to be repatriated today through the Nakugaon land port in Sherpur. BGB and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) are working jointly to facilitate the process.

The repatriation operation was carried out through coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, local administration, and other relevant agencies.
