The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Bangladesh celebrated its 80th anniversary and five decades of successful cooperation with the country at the Intercontinental Dhaka on Sunday. The event began with a special session titled ‘Innovators Brew’, which was attended by young agricultural entrepreneurs.

The main event was graced by the presence of Md. Shahriar Quader Siddiqui, Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance, as the chief guest, while Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Additional Secretary (PPC Wing), Ministry of Agriculture, as the special guest, and the session was chaired by FAO Representative to Bangladesh, Xiaokun Shi. FAO Deputy Representative Dia Sanu delivered the keynote address.

The dialogue session was attended by various eminent personalities, such as: AKM Sohel (Additional Secretary, ERD), Jean Pesme (Division Director, World Bank), Haakon Arald Gulbrandsen (Ambassador of Norway), Antonio Alessandro (Ambassador of Italy), and Uzma Chowdhury (PRAN-RFL Group and Meghna Bank).

The discussions focused on the development of the agricultural sector, innovative technologies and various initiatives to ensure food security in Bangladesh. FAO has played a significant role in strengthening and sustaining the country’s agricultural sector through its long-term cooperation with Bangladesh.
