Australian High Commissioner pays courtesy call on Jamaat Ameer

Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ms. Susan Ryle paid a courtesy call and breakfast meeting with the Honorable Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The meeting was held at the Ameer-e-Jamaat’s office in Bashundhara, the capital, on Thursday (October 9, 2025) morning.

At the beginning of the meeting, the High Commissioner inquired about the health of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and wished him a speedy and full recovery. The discussion was held in a very cordial and cordial atmosphere. A four-member delegation including Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobecke of the Australian High Commission and Political First Secretary Anna Peterson were present.

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General and Head of Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and Central Majlis-e-Shura Member Maulana Yasin Arafat.

The meeting exchanged views on the upcoming national elections in Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in making democracy more meaningful and inclusive, women’s rights and women’s participation in society. Jamaat-e-Islami’s positive stance towards the right of women to work independently and participate in the social, economic and administrative spheres of society was highlighted.

In addition, the meeting discussed in detail the economic potential of Bangladesh, especially the development of the energy and ready-made garment sectors. High Commissioner Susan Ryle praised Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in building a corruption-free society.

The meeting also discussed further accelerating issues of bilateral interest and Australia’s possible cooperation in Bangladesh’s skill development program.
