A significant number of personnel have been appointed to various law enforcement agencies in various departments and organizations under the Home Ministry during the tenure of the current interim government in order to make the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections free, fair, impartial and secure, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.).
The advisor made this statement while briefing journalists after the 12th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (August 18, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that 15,851 police members have been appointed to the police before the election. Moreover, 4,469 new personnel have been appointed in the BGB, 5,551 in the Ansar, 1,558 in the Prisons Department and 208 in the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department. These personnel appointments have been made against some newly created posts and some vacancies. In the case of the police, appointments have been made to the posts of constables and sub-inspectors (SI). In addition, appointments have been made to equivalent posts in the Ansar and BGB.
Responding to journalists’ questions about the Home Ministry’s instructions to law enforcement agencies around August 15, the advisor said, “Our instructions were to ensure that no untoward incident occurs.” Regarding the recent temporary suspension of 18 officers of the BCS police cadre, he said, “Being absent from work for 60 days or more without permission is a crime of desertion.” Accordingly, these officers have been temporarily suspended. This is an ongoing process that will continue.

Responding to journalists’ questions regarding the harassment case, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, “We want the general public or innocent people not to be harassed in any way. However, the guilty will not be released under any circumstances.” Addressing the journalists, the advisor also said, “If an innocent person is detained or arrested, please inform us through the media. In that case, necessary action will be taken.” The advisor sincerely thanked the media for revealing the truth at this time.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud PSC, and others were present at the briefing.
