81st Anniversary of Myanmar Armed Forces Day Celebrated in Dhaka

Diplomatic Desk:

The Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka celebrated the 81st anniversary of ‘Myanmar Armed Forces Day’ with a grand ceremony at a prestigious hotel in the capital on Monday (30 March 2026).

Myanmar’s Military, Naval and Air Attaché Brigadier General Zaw Man Phyo delivered the welcome address at the event. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the guests present and said that this day, celebrated on 27 March, is a symbol of Myanmar’s independence, patriotism and national sovereignty. He said that the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces) has been playing an important role in the country’s democratic progress, stability and development.

Brigadier General Zaw Man Phyo, in his speech, highlighted the goals and activities of the Tatmadaw and said that maintaining the democratic process in light of the constitution, ensuring national unity and development, and increasing military capabilities based on modern technology are their main priorities.

Air Chief Marshal Hassan Mahmud Khan, Chief of the Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force, was present as the chief guest at the event. In his speech, he said, “I am honored and happy to participate in the 81st anniversary of Myanmar Armed Forces Day. I thank the Myanmar Embassy for the invitation and warm hospitality.”

He also said, “The relations between Bangladesh and Myanmar are built on the basis of history, geographical location and cultural proximity. Both countries are working together for the purpose of regional peace, stability and prosperity.”

He highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation in the current global security context and said that it is necessary to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in border and maritime security, disaster management and addressing humanitarian challenges.

Highlighting the various humanitarian challenges including the Rohingya issue, he said that sustainable solutions to these problems can be achieved through peaceful means, mutual trust and constructive dialogue. He expressed hope that the ongoing cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened in the future.

Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh U Kyaw Soe Moe spoke the event. “This event is an important occasion to remember our history and reaffirm our values,” he said.

He said that the journey of the Myanmar Armed Forces began in 1945 during the Second World War during the struggle for independence and since then they have been playing an important role in protecting the sovereignty of the country.

Regarding Bangladesh-Myanmar relations, the ambassador said, “Myanmar has been maintaining friendly relations as a neighboring country since the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. The two countries share about 168 miles of land and maritime border and we are committed to resolving various issues based on mutual respect and cooperation.”

He also said that cooperation between the two countries on various issues, including the repatriation of displaced people from Rakhine State, continues and he hopes that it will be further strengthened in the future.

Noting that a new government is going to take office in Myanmar from April 1, 2026, he said that cooperation between the two countries in various sectors including security, trade, education and tourism will be further expanded through the new government.

The day was officially celebrated by cutting a cake at the event. Ambassadors, diplomats, military officers, businessmen and dignitaries from different countries participated in it.

The event ended with a reaffirmation of the commitment to strengthen friendly relations, mutual cooperation and regional peace and stability between Bangladesh and Myanmar.
