6 newborns die together at the capital’s Ad-Din Hospital

Desk Report:

Six newborns have died together at the capital’s Ad-Din Medical College Hospital. Mazharul Islam confirmed this information on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) morning.

According to police sources, a total of 11 mothers and 6 newborns were staying in the hospital’s post-operative room. On Tuesday between 2 and 3 am, a mother requested that the air conditioner (AC) in the room be turned off as she felt excessively cold. Later, the AC was turned off for about an hour.

At that time, it is reported that other newborns in the room had difficulty breathing. The physical condition of the children started deteriorating after 6 am and at one stage, 6 newborns died one by one.

The hospital authorities claim that due to the lack of adequate ventilation system in the post-operative room, a situation of suffocation or oxygen deficiency may arise in the room when the AC is turned off. It is initially believed that the newborns developed respiratory complications as a result.

A shadow of mourning has descended over the hospital after the incident. Law enforcement and relevant authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Necessary tests and investigations are underway to find out the real cause of death.
